Wood Seal Making

Seal making shops in Hanoi are located around narrow landscapes in the same region as some shops at Hang Quat, Hang Bong and a shop at 2B Ta Hien.

Customers are interested in the wood seals becaof the unique and skilful carving methods. They are hand-made souvenirs with personal marks of traditional culture from Vietnam.A carver of seals, Mr Pham Ngoc Toan on 6, Hang Quat, said that many foreigners have become patrons of his shop, especially the Japanese tourists. He has to learn a few languages becahe so often has to interact with them.

There are about a 100 different seals in the shops of Hanoi, with many shapes to choose from like; square, circle and rectangular. As well as a variety of content including seals for your library, names, cities and 12 animal names. Carvers are also able to make your own personalized stamp that you can instead of a signature.

The easiest way to recognize a seal shop is by the old English and Chinese boards on display. Seal carvers play a very important role in introducing Vietnamese culture to the world.
